Ooh, the Toronto holiday gets to Toronto! (Old city hall)

And, as with all good trips to Toronto, we start... in Edinburgh. This is the castle's portcullis (that last one was a church on the mile) And this is Arty Dave #1 taking pictures through an arrowslit thingymajig A view over the city, much better than... ...when this guy gets in the way. Once, this cannon could have destroyed lots of baddies. Yes, that's right. Dave is the world's least convincing, or scary, soldier The One o'clock gun, soon after 1pm as we were in a museum at the time... And we wouldn't be Edinburgh tourists without the traditional view up. After a quick soaking in Holyrood Park, it's back to Suja's to dry off with a hairdryer ...And then the next day, to get wet again - at KB. For some reason. Ooh, the Toronto holiday gets to Toronto! (Old city hall) Ooh, it's high And just like that, we're up it! (South, Toronto islands) Stupid reflections. This is the view east. And this is south-ish, to show some of the cool skyscrapers... It wasn't that dark, the camera just sulked Lots and lots of skyscrapers (north) Dave wrecks the restaurant for a pic The (pretty impressive) shadow of the tower. West over Lake Ontario Art through the grille from outside... Nope, still not enough light It's a long way down. Even without feet, it's still a big drop. And yet, still we go higher. This is from the Skypod, which is... No, not you... Ah, there. The world's highest observation deck. Pointing to our hotel. Shame Dave can't line it up right, I have no idea where it actually is But hey, on the plus side, here's a Rubik's cube sticking out of a building! And here is one of Toronto's three million (seriously, they're everywhere) construction sites. This, meanwhile, is the rather stylishly-designed City Hall. While this is Nathan Philips Square, in front of it. Who was Nathan Philips? Don't ask me, I'm just the photographer. The flatiron building, which had the world's worst painting on the other side. So bad, in fact, that I didn't even bother taking a picture of it. Inside and underground, to this rather cool fountain in PATH (the underground shopping complex) Ooh, new day, new city... Niagara Falls! This was the rather nice view from the hotel window. This, meanwhile, the somewhat less attractive view from outside :) London Bus drivers really should learn to read maps. Ooh it's the falls! Horseshoe one - much better than the little American one. Dave doesn't look suitably impressed. I must admit, this is really very cool. This is less so - it's a picture of the falls for people to take pictures at. Whoever would do that?! Behind the falls. That water was going very fast, honest. Who's that ghostly figure? Why, it's... Dave! It was rather wet down there, you know The brown mess at the end is solid ice from the falls (they were frozen for the winter) Iain breaks the law. Tut Out over the Horseshoe Even the camera got wet. Not good for it, I'm sure. Still looks nice though. Some serious iced-up action. Stupid light-dark meter And how stupid a face can YOU pull? Swooooooooooooooooosh Iain is impressed More swoooosh The falls get kinda obscured by the spray a lot, rather annoyingly The point the Horseshoe starts. This is only it at half-capacity, in the summer it REALLY goes mad So it's time for some air guitar then? The Rainbow is a symbol... oh, wait, we did that. Wait, that can't be real... Ah no. It's at the really, really, sad wall. Worth the climb though. The American, and as such less impressive, falls Niagara's answer to the CN Tower. We didn't bother going up Ooh, our hotel (the smaller one) Hang on, what's that boat doing there? Ah well, back to the hotel it is then. Just time for another look along the front. Dave looks scared - and blue - in the rather posh hotel See? Posh. Carpet and everything. And a chandelier. And a piano! WOW #The girl works at the store, sweet....# Seriously. This was a two-hour round trip. And it's the world's most boring intersection. (For those who don't know, Jane St Clair is the name of a woman in a Barenaked Ladies song, named after this corner. Dunno why, it's a dump) This is a statue. We don't know of what. Especially for... erm... This is the Parliament. Did it cost £450 million? I doubt it Dave is amazed. This picture is shot in the true tourist style of taking a picture AWAY from the exciting, interesting, thing While this, quite obviously, is a squirrel. Just call me Mr Observant Slightly nicer than KB? Ooh, it's a popstar's house! Spot the slight problem with the large neon OPEN sign... Haha, what a dumb name. Speaking of which... we're in Cabbagetown! Iain decides to get out The view back to downtown. It's not actually that far... We walked past these umpteen times, eventually I had to get a photo Curvy building! Nice More modern art (there's lots of this) A rather nice reflection. More of this coming up CN Tower on a much nicer day On reflection, this is a bit dull really Ah, that's better. Lots to look at. No, they're not building round the base... Iain's not impressed by Niagara Falls Modern art, kitchen-style The view back from the Islands You may spot something of a theme developing with these pictures Oh wait, here's something different - the river between Ward's and Snake Island. Cool Ah, there we go Art! Hmm... Even Iain gets bored with the same old pic Lovely. Much better, I think - a slightly more attractive/less disgusting view MOVE ON NOW!! This may be overkill. Erm... Umm... Sorry! It's just the picture-postcard view... Ooh! It's a lighthouse! Let's go up... Oh wait, it's shut. Let's have dinner instead. YUM Or go back to the same old view, slightly later. Whatever. At least this has something else to look at... And finally, Dave realises he hasn't actually got any pictures of the islands. Whooooops.. So here's another one to make up for it. This is the square at Yonge/Dundas next to where we stayed. And this (right) is where we stayed. Another view of the square, rather attractive really Where'd he come from? Art, reflection-style And again (inspired by Iain) Wow! The CN Tower! There's a shock pic So instead, see if you can spot our intrepid travellers. And finally, a look inside the Eaton Centre. On Easter Sunday. When everything was shut.
