Team Hoff makes its victorious arrival in the Vancouver youth hostel Team Hoff does its best nerd impression in an effort to get a job in Canada Dramatic scenery somewhat spoiled by rubbish weather... ...and there being a large pole in the way One of the posh-looking buildings on the waterfront More of the posh-looking buildings on the waterfront Happy Team Hoff, looking remarkably healthy after a nine-hour flight and with an eight-hour time difference More waterfront-y type places The closest we got to culture in Vancouver - standing outside :) Aha! Another day and it's magically become gorgeous weather So we walked across a big bridge... ...stopping half-way across... ...to take some nice pictures (that's Stanley Park in the distance)... ...before someone got in the way of the nice pictures Kitsilano Beach - home of, erm, a totem pole... ...and of someone who was about get rather sunburnt Yes, this is in fact a picture of a tree. No, I don't know why either That's better (that's downtown Vancouver at the right, and Stanley Park straight ahead) And there's downtown properly Crazy art! You take a picture from a bin, I take a picture OF a bin Heading back. Lots of boats Back in downtown, cool glass buildings on the waterfront The houses across there were in fact houseboats. Not that you'd know, as I cut off the important bit of the picture with a large railing Yay! Davie Street! How cool... oh wait, it's the gay district Back to Kitsilano and so on from the edge of Stanley Park Scott looks horrendously ill... ...and then somewhat like a guard The coliseum! Oh wait, it's the library Another day, another type of weather. Pouring rain. Whoopee Enjoying the lovely weather... ...and the most pointless monument ever Ah, this is more like it. Oriental calm in Chinatown Although Scott was quizzical about the whole experience Old and new Erm... trees I think that's a pagoda Maybe this man would know Pagoda-tastic I'm in a Zen-like state of calm Thank-you, kind lady, for taking our picture! Arty. Almost Actually, just a bit rubbish It all looks very nice, it's just hard to write captions for Tum-te-tum... Artiness continues Ooh! We're somewhere new! An art-deco skyscraper, in fact It's lovely inside, apparently. Shame we went on a Saturday, when it was shut Oh well, as it's brightened up we'll head into the rather leafy west end Another day, and a taste of home The rollerblades proved to be a slightly daft idea But the scenery in Stanley Park was stunning Even when we faced the wrong way A boathouse. Falls: 1 These people are rich Canada Place and the Hamburger and other such things That's the Lion's Gate Bridge, which goes over to North Vancouver and such places Home of the Canadian Navy, I think. You're not allowed in Unfortunately, the path under the bridge was shut... So we went up to the top, and saw a raccoon! And it was worth it for the views... ...unfortunately, we hadn't thought about how to get back down from this height... ...short of just falling down those steps, anyway Oh well, we managed... and indeed got another picture of houseboats that doesn't show they're houseboats A Team Hoff invasion Looking south Granville Island promenade Scott is a true Canadian. It was actually gloriously sunny at this point, I'm not sure where it hid for the photo "Yes, this is absolutely my gallery!" Oop, another day and we're half-way to Whistler. This is Squamish. It wasn't very good Did look pretty impressive, though You can climb that, if you want. I didn't Looking distinctly unimpressed The dream machine that got us to Whistler! Snow-topped mountains And a golf course And, erm, a lake Heading back, this is the view you want... not the road behind you like random Koreans were getting pictures of Fantastic countryside Back to Prospect Point at the top of Stanley Park You can almost smell the dope. Well, we could Another day, and another... erm... country! This'll be Seattle, then Fantastically clear at the top of the Space Needle Downtown Seattle Strong-man. Honest Mount Ranier hiding in the distance. You can't normally see it at all Skyscraper City I'm happy to be so high Sunspot artiness Home of the Mariners! Take me to the ball game... Oh, it's not until this evening And to end the photos, the woman with her back to the camera was the most supremely annoying person ever caught in a picture
